Meet Your Speakers

Tom Basso -

Tom Basso, nicknamed “Mr. Serenity,” by Jack Schwager in the book, The New Market Wizards, is a retired hedge-fund manager and prominent educator in trading. He bought his first mutual fund at age 12, studied chemical engineering at Clarkson University and worked as an engineer for several years. Intrigued by markets, he became a registered investment adviser in 1980 and a commodities trading adviser in 1984. That same year he founded Trendstat Capital Management, which he ran as chief executive for almost three decades.

Trendstat grew to manage roughly $600 million using systematic trend-following strategies. Basso also served on the board of the National Futures Association and wrote books including Panic-Proof Investing, Successful Traders Size Their Positions – Why and How, and his most recent effort, The All-Weather Trader.

After retiring from money management in 2003, Basso has focused on education. He runs the website enjoytheride.world, where he shares articles, research, and interviews. He is also chairman of Standpoint Funds Management, a firm applying diversified systematic strategies to The Standpoint Multi-Asset fund. Basso emphasises psychology and position sizing, insisting that risk control is more important than entry and exit signals. His decades of experience and dedication to teaching make him a respected voice in quantitative trading.

David Bush

David is a quantitative trader and asset manager with over three decades of experience in global financial markets. As champion of BattleFin's "Sharpe Ratio Shootout"—prevailing over 3,200 international competitors from more than forty countries—and winner of NAAIM's 2016 "Shark Tank" Strategy Competition, Mr. Bush brings proven expertise in systematic trading strategy development.
Mr. Bush founded quantitative asset management firm Alphatative in 2011, where he manages his award winning Stratversify® L/S Equity strategy to achieve industry-recognized risk-adjusted returns.

His expertise has been featured in Bloomberg Personal Finance, TABB Group's QuantFORUM, Chat with Traders, Traders Magazine, Hedge Fund Alert, and Algorithmic Advantage. He served as a strategic advisor to NAAIM's Board of Directors and chaired the organization's Investment Committee, and currently authors the REKTelligence Report, a quantitative research publication covering equity, commodity, crypto, and credit markets.

An accomplished musician who performed with Grammy-winning artists and producers, Mr. Bush credits
musical discipline for his affinity for financial market patterns—both fields share mathematical properties,
alternate between dominant and subordinate regimes, and manifest emotion in rhythm. He currently resides
in Bonaire, Caribbean Netherlands.

Mandi Rafsendjani

With over 20 years of experience coaching 1000s traders, Mandi has identified the psychological patterns that separate the best traders in the world from the rest.

Her clients range from retail traders looking to turn profitable or even reaching their full potential to professionals managing institutional capital who are focused on increasing the returns for their trading clients. But what has become apparent for Mandi is that across every level, the same truth appears again and again: Mindset is either your greatest asset or your biggest liability.

In her work Mandi helps traders overcome all the challenges every trader is faced with: FOMO, overtrading, revenge trading, impulsive decision-making, and the pressure that comes with scaling.

Keith Glennan

Keith has been trading financial markets for three decades.  He started his professional career as a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard in 1984 before moving to IBM in 1990.  Having long been fascinated by the idea of applying algorithmic approaches to imperfect markets, he was naturally drawn to use his programming skills to develop systematic trading systems.

Keith’s experience in publicly traded companies (including listing and running companies on the ASX) convinced him more than ever that discretionary trading was (for him at least) the worst way to make a living from the markets.

For the last eight years, Keith has been a full-time researcher, algorithmic systems developer, and trader.   He is fascinated by the idea of identifying and extracting edges from the markets.  He has used his software engineering expertise to build his own backtesting platform to assist in the search for robust edges that can be exploited by retail traders.

Colin Simpson

Colin has been trading for more than 30 years, commencing with shares and moving into CFD trading in 2003.  After being mentored by Chris Tate and Louise Bedford he worked looked after the Alumni Forum for The Trading Game for many years.  In 2013 Louise Bedford asked Colin to takeover her private client work and he began mentoring traders in both the Shares and FX markets.

Colin’s mentoring is focused on building systems based on good Risk Management and a strong Trading Mindset.

Over the last 10 years Colin has developed fully automated trading systems as well as his ongoing mentoring.
