Presentations from the 2026 ATAA Online Conference
A Canberra Chapter tradition is to present summaries of some ATAA Conference presentations from the most recent conference. Two have been selected for our October meeting. These are:
- Trade like a Quant by Keith Glannan: presented by Chris Meakin. A walk through the quant research pipeline, and where retail practice diverges from professional practice. Keith explains why your data may be lying to you, why many "validated" strategies are luck in disguise, why robustness testing and backtests flatter to deceive, why platform choice matters more than expected, and why risk is a system rather than a stop loss.
This presentation was described as a ‘killer of the sacred cows of quant-analysis’ on Conference day.
- Surviving over 50 years of Trading by Tom Basso: Presented by Mark Gleeson. Five decades of lessons from a career money manager, now a retired private trader. Tom covers the hurdles that shaped him: getting position sizing right and why it proved critical to survival, dealing with mental pressure, the real difference between systematic and automated trading, and learning to question your own biases. The key points from a trading veteran will be discussed.

Our Canberra chapter Options maestro will briefly present the anatomy of a recent Options trade. Perfect for members with an understanding of Options and those wanting to enter the Options world at a volatile time in the market.
